One Week Later…




Kerel winced in discomfort and hugged her belly tightly as she drifted idly through the murky water of her pond. Both of her stomachs were painfully empty and neither were happy about it.



A stroke of bad luck had befallen the Zonphoid recently and she had been unable to catch any food for the past day and a half, leaving her desperately hungry.

Kerel’s sharp, green eyes glared through the water, fixed firmly upon her prey. Ten feet ahead of her, an Aphot leisurely made its way along the wall of the pond, its many wriggly tentacles reaching out and feeling for obstacles. Aphots were Kerel’s favorite prey. Easy to catch and with so many squirmy body parts… wonderful.

“Hello, yes, excuse me please. Thank you. Coming through! Please, I’m in a hurry,” Mary called as she tried to navigate her way through the bustling crowd that blocked the sidewalk, hemmed in on both sides by tall city buildings. “I’m so sorry, could I just… Thank you! Excuse me please, coming through.”



She tried to give each passerby a wide smile as an apology and a thank you for making way.

Aiden’s breath came out in quick, short gasps as panic welled up in his chest. He didn’t know where he was or how he got there, and there wasn’t any light to help him investigate. Just the dark. All that he knew: he wasn’t alone.

Samuel was feeling childishly happy. It wasn’t an emotion he experienced very often anymore. Ever since he had started attending university he was almost constantly busy and stressed with his part-time job, studying, and keeping up with his social group.



But right now, the young man was enjoying the simple pleasures of an easter egg hunt. It had been so long since he had done one of these - many, many years, back when he was a chil

The big, red tent glowed brightly from within, standing out against the countryside around it like a drop of blood. Many would think that the circus tent would be heaving with people, parents and children alike, all making a deafening din. And they would be right… mostly. The current show had started at 2:00AM in the morning so the audience consisted mainly of drunken adults like hen night partiers, or very dedicated patrons. There wasn’t a family or child in sight.

Hundreds of camera drones soared over the large stadium, filming the thousands of cheering people within as three lone figures were raised up from the floor in the center of the arena.



The three humans, two men and one woman, looked up at the shouting crowd, their hardened faces stoic as they waited patiently for the presenter to speak. Everyone quietened as his booming voice echoed around the stadium.

Tessa smiled excitedly and licked her lips. The blue fairy had happened upon a very appealing sight: a human camp.



A couple dozen large tents were situated in the middle of a small clearing and the soft canvas was fluttering in the gentle evening breeze. From the bushes, Tessa couldn’t actually see any of the campers but her predator sense was telling her that there were at least twenty of them… and all but two of them were

Captain Salvador ‘Sea Dog’ Briggs strode across the sturdy deck of his ship, his canine face glancing left and right as his crew bustled about their jobs. The inu’s dog-like ears twitched uncomfortably at the amount of noise being made and he looked worriedly into the dense wall of trees either side of the river. Predators could be lurking there at this very second - a fact that had always unnerved the captain and made his dark fur stand on end.

The inhabitants of the small village of Cruxburg take Halloween very seriously. They make up for their small numbers in fantastic displays of lights and fireworks. In the week leading up to Halloween, their houses are strung with scary decorations and the streets are filled with people wearing hundreds of different costumes.

Charlotte’s tail swished up and down in a hypnotic, wave-like motion as she glided through the water. The human-sized mermaid had just woken up and was now out and about, looking for breakfast. But that also meant that other creatures, some bigger than her, were out looking for their morning meal… and she didn’t want to end up on the menu. So her gaze was constantly flicking about, looking for both predators and prey.

Sheila swayed sleepily as a light breeze tried to tip her over. She was feeling particularly lazy today, which is saying a lot given that Sheila was a dryad, well known for their laziness.



The wind swept between her leaves wonderfully and created that universal soothing whooshing sound that so many people find comforting. Several birds tweeted happily in the two hundred-foot being’s green plumage and Sheila smiled dreamily at them.

“There! That one over there!” Crisis giggled excitedly as she pointed at a grazing duiker. "They’re her favorite.”



“Are you sure we should be doing this?” Lea asked, perched on her blonde friend’s shoulder.



“Yes, yes. She’ll love it!” the giant naga gleefully said. "Hurry up, before it moves away.”

“Hello, little ones!” Crisis greeted cheerfully as multiple little figures ran away from her.



“No wait! Don’t go," she called, playfully putting on a sad face. She curled her teal-colored tail around the campsite, trapping the several humans she had just surprised. Their cries of dismay as they looked for a way out made her grin and she licked her lips.

Pandora whizzed through the Felaryan jungle, her gleaming fairy wings buffeting her locks of jet black hair. It was her birthday and she wanted to prepare something special for her evening meal, she had just eaten so she wouldn’t be tempted to spoil her fun by gobbling it up prematurely.



She glanced down at her tummy, feeling the four humans struggling inside as her stomach churned them about in its fluids. They were digesting nice

“Arrgh! Come here you little-” Anna lunged at the fleeing herd of duikers. She coiled her tail and used it to propel herself after the small herbivores - a nice trick she had learned from Crisis. Her pink hair trailed behind her as she sailed through the air, eyes fixed on her escaping prey. Unfortunately, she had not yet perfected the maneuver and ended up, somewhat ungracefully, landing flat on her face with her arms outstretched in front of her. She flailed her arms blindly in a l
